Indonesian helps clone 1st dog<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Yuda Heru Fibrianto, a lecturer from Gadjah Mada
\nUniversity (UGM)'s School of Veterinary Medicine, was among the
\nresearchers at a South Korean university who recently created the
\nworld's first cloned dog.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a news conference here on Friday, the dean of
\nUGM's School of Veterinary Medicine, Charles Ranggatabu,
\nexpressed pride over the breakthrough, saying that it had added
\nto the long list of achievements of UGM lecturers.<\/p>\n
\"He is probably the first Indonesian who has ever taken part
\nin such a prestigious, world-class research project, and whose
\nreport was published in the prestigious scientific journal,
\nNature,\" Charles said.<\/p>\n
Yuda and 10 other researchers under the supervision of Prof.
\nByeong Chun Lee produced the world's first cloned puppy from
\ngenetic material taken from an Afghan hound.<\/p>\n
The Yogyakarta-born Yuda, 36, who hopes to finish his
\ndoctorate at Seoul National University this year, has chosen his
\nwork on the cloning project as the topic for his dissertation,
\nCharles said.<\/p>\n
\"He has promised to continue his research here once he returns
