        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2014 The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Phnom Penh has\nreported that between late January and 8 March 2026, it has facilitated\nthe return of 1,816 Indonesian nationals (WNI) who were caught up in\nonline scam networks operating in Cambodia.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement from the KBRI Phnom Penh received in Jakarta\non Tuesday, the majority of Indonesian nationals whose repatriation was\nfacilitated lacked passports and faced overstay penalties owing to\nexpired residency permits.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy noted that to accelerate the repatriation process, it has\nbeen issuing Travel Documents in Lieu of Passports (SPLP) for Indonesian\nnationals without travel documentation. \u201cTo date, more than 2,112 such\ntravel documents have been issued,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the KBRI has coordinated closely with Cambodian\nauthorities to facilitate the waiver of overstay fines for Indonesian\nnationals, with more than 3,211 citizens having received approval for\nfine exemption so far.<\/p>\n<p>The KBRI Phnom Penh has pledged to continue coordinating with various\nparties in Cambodia and Indonesia to ensure that the repatriation\nprocess for Indonesian nationals proceeds safely, orderly, and\nsmoothly.<\/p>\n<p>According to the embassy, the surge in repatriation assistance\nrequests is reflected in the rising number of Indonesian nationals\nvisiting the KBRI Phnom Penh directly. Between 16 January and 8 March\n2026, a total of 5,481 Indonesian nationals have requested repatriation\nassistance, surpassing the total number of cases handled by the embassy\nthroughout 2025, which was 5,088.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy stated that the increase in cases has occurred alongside\nCambodia\u2019s government crackdown on online scam networks that began in\nearly January 2026.<\/p>",
