With reference to a news story printed in Kompas on Nov. 9
\nheadlined Govt ready to help Indonesian citizens\", there is a
\nsentence that needs to be corrected. The sentence reads: \"As soon
\nas this information was received, the news release said the
\nIndonesian Embassy contacted the victim, who later said that the
\nraid was conducted properly, without exaggeration.\"<\/p>\n
This sentence, referring to a news release from the Indonesian
\nEmbassy in Canberra dated Nov. 8, may give members of the
\ncommunity a different perception, particularly if it is connected
\nwith a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, which
\ncould be construed that it had condoned the raid.<\/p>\n
If the press release is read carefully, a conclusion that
\nmight be drawn is that security raids conducted by ASIO and AFP
\nin Melbourne were carried out properly without exaggeration,
\nunlike those in Sydney and Perth.<\/p>\n
This clarification is necessary to avoid the Indonesian
\ncommunity misperceiving the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, which
\nis Indonesia's representative office in Australia. It is one of
\nthe embassy's functions and tasks to protect every Indonesian
\ncitizen staying in Australia.<\/p>\n
