        "content": "<p>Beijing (ANTARA) - The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to\nChina and Mongolia, Djauhari Oratmangun, stated that the opening of the\nConsulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Chengdu is\ndrawing closer, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in Southwest\nChina.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn March 2026, the President of the Republic of Indonesia signed\nPresidential Regulation No.\u00a010 of 2026, which forms the basis for\nopening KJRI Chengdu. This reflects Indonesia\u2019s priority to continue\nstrengthening strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the Southwest\nChina region, with Chengdu in Sichuan Province as its \u2018gateway\u2019,\u201d said\nAmbassador Djauhari in a written statement.<\/p>\n<p>This was conveyed by the ambassador during a meeting with the Party\nSecretary of the Communist Party of China in Sichuan Province, Wang\nXiaohui, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on Friday (17\/4).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the vast potential of Indonesia and Sichuan Province, there are\nmany areas of cooperation that we can continue to develop, including\nindustry and downstreaming, renewable energy such as solar panels,\npharmaceuticals and healthcare, battery storage development, and energy\necosystems,\u201d added Ambassador Djauhari.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Djauhari added that people-to-people relations are also an\nimportant pillar of Indonesia-Sichuan cooperation, through education,\ntourism, and culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, a baby panda named \u2018Ksatrio\u2019 or \u2018Rio\u2019 was born at Taman\nSafari Bogor, becoming a symbol of the strong friendship between\nIndonesia and China, especially Sichuan, given that Sichuan is the\ncentre of panda conservation,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the tourism sector is a highly promising area of\ncooperation due to the opening of direct flights from Chengdu to Jakarta\nand Bali.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Party Secretary Wang Xiaohui stated that Sichuan Province\nis the sixth largest economy in China. Sichuan\u2019s Gross Domestic Product\n(GDP) in 2025 reached around $1 trillion with an economic growth of 5.5\npercent, or 0.5 percent higher than China\u2019s national growth.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing also held a\nsocialisation programme in Chengdu titled \u201cIndonesia Updates:\nPartnership for Resilience\u201d, attended by hundreds of invitees from\nmedia, businesspeople, academics, and government representatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year, trade between Indonesia and Sichuan Province reached more\nthan $2.1 billion. With this opening, Chengdu will become an important\nconnecting point for strengthening cooperation not only in economic,\ntrade, and investment fields, but also in healthcare, industrial\ntransformation and energy, education, and tourism,\u201d said Ambassador\nDjauhari at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Function Coordinator of the Indonesian Embassy in\nBeijing, Anindityo Adi Primasto, at the same event, emphasised that with\na large young population, abundant natural resources, and the Indonesian\ngovernment\u2019s economic policies, Indonesia is not only a promising\neconomic partner but also complementary to Sichuan.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, for the education sector, the Education Attach\u00e9 at the\nIndonesian Embassy in Beijing, Lestari Puspitaningsih, stated that\neducational cooperation between the two countries is becoming\nincreasingly intensive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore and more Chinese students are interested in studying in\nIndonesia, including by utilising the Darmasiswa scholarship,\u201d said\nLestari.<\/p>\n<p>Next, the Immigration Attach\u00e9 at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing,\nHerawan Sukoaji, explained that Indonesia\u2019s immigration policies also\nsupport efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and people-to-people\nties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018golden visa\u2019 facility provides opportunities for investors,\ninnovators, and the Indonesian diaspora to reside in Indonesia for 5-10\nyears to invest and support development in Indonesia,\u201d revealed\nHerawan.<\/p>\n<p>A representative of the Sichuan Provincial Government, Liu Min, at\nthe event, emphasised Sichuan\u2019s readiness to enhance cooperation with\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian Embassy in Beijing also promoted Indonesian frozen\ndurian, which has entered the Chinese market since January 2026, and\nvarious other Indonesian food and beverage products such as chips,\ncrackers, coffee, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, bilateral trade between Indonesia and China in 2025 reached\nmore than $167 billion or around Rp2,862 trillion, while investments\nreached $7.5 billion or around Rp128.5 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>Sichuan Province is known to have industrial capacity in electronics,\nrenewable energy, railways and transportation, photovoltaics, chemicals,\nand AI. Sichuan also has a battery industry that controls 10 percent of\nthe world\u2019s battery production.<\/p>\n<p>Sichuan Province already has a \u201ctwin province\u201d cooperation with West\nJava, while Chengdu has a \u201ctwin city\u201d cooperation with Medan.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Sichuan Province, KJRI Chengdu will later handle\ncooperation with Chongqing City, Yunnan Province, Shaanxi Province, and\nGansu Province.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia currently has three Consulates General in China, namely in\nGuangzhou, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. Meanwhile, several other ASEAN\ncountries have more than two consulates. For example, Thailand has eight\nconsulates, Vietnam has five consulates, and Malaysia has nine\nconsulates.<\/p>",
