A more comprehensive approach is needed to address cyber threats and\nthe misuse of personal data, the ministry\u2019s Secretary General, Ismail,\nsaid in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cost of maintaining security may seem enormous. However, when a\nsecurity breach occurs within a company, the impact can shatter\nlong-built foundations,\u201d he said during the R17 Podcast Show Vol. 04\nthemed \u201cShaping Secure Data Intelligence for Digital Resilience\u201d on\nThursday (April 23).<\/p>\n
\u201cReputation is at stake, and this is not something to be taken\nlightly,\u201d Ismail added.<\/p>\n
In an effort to improve data security, first, the government is\nformulating supporting policies and regulations.<\/p>\n
Second, the government is acting as an orchestrator, coordinating\nvarious activities related to data utilization and security, as well as\nthe development of a national digital ecosystem involving multiple\nstakeholders.<\/p>\n
Third, the government is investing in strategic sectors that cannot\nbe fully addressed by businesses, such as developing digital talent,\nstrengthening digital infrastructure and improving connectivity in\nremote areas.<\/p>\n
According to a report by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC),\nlosses due to digital fraud in East Asia and Southeast Asia are\nestimated to reach US$18 billion to US$37 billion by 2023.<\/p>\n
The Southeast Asia region is considered a hub for digital-based\norganized crime activity.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a Europol report shows that cybercriminals have now\nevolved into large-scale data brokers exploiting and monetizing personal\ndata in various crime chains.<\/p>\n
Deputy for cybersecurity and cryptography operations at the National\nCyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), Bondan Widiawan, highlighted the\nimportance of developing an early warning system and strengthening an\nintegrated threat intelligence ecosystem between the government and the\nprivate sector to counter cyber threats.<\/p>\n
Virtus Technology Indonesia General Manager Wisnu Nursahid said cyber\nresilience has become a key requirement for organizations.<\/p>\n
An artificial intelligence-based security approach can improve\ndetection accuracy, accelerate response, and strengthen protection\nwithout disrupting business operations, he noted.<\/p>\n
Cyble Country Manager Rangga stated that the growing digital\nfootprint increases the risk to data assets, especially with the rise in\nactivity on dark web forums and marketplaces.<\/p>\n
Utilizing dark web monitoring technology is considered crucial to\nincrease visibility and speed of threat detection, he said.<\/p>\n
R17 Group CEO Hengky Witarsa stated that collaboration between\nregulators and industry players is crucial in building national digital\nresilience.<\/p>\n
\u201cDigital resilience can only be achieved through true collaboration\nbetween regulators and industry. We encourage a secure-by-design\napproach so that business innovation can go hand in hand with data\nprotection,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
