Indonesia wins three titles in Asian School meet<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia grabbed three more titles in the
\ngirls' singles, girls' doubles and boys' doubles in the first
\nAsian Schools Tennis Championships at the Senayan tennis complex
\non Sunday.<\/p>\n
Frederika Girsang of Indonesia, who has an International
\nTennis Federation junior ranking of 183, had to fight hard to
\ndefeat Fan Na of China 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the girls' singles.
\nEarlier, Fan upset top-seed Chattida Thimjapo of Thailand and
\nthird-seed Angelique Widjaja of Indonesia.<\/p>\n
In the boys' singles, the gold medal went to Sunil Kumar of
\nIndia. Kumar tried his best to eliminate Chinese Yang Tao 6-4, 7-
\n5.<\/p>\n
Indonesia's boys' doubles of Naharuddin and Prima Simpatiaji,
\ntop seed in the championships, contributed another gold medal
\nafter beating Pacharapol Khamsaman and Sornsakol Supakit of
\nThailand 6-2, 7-5.<\/p>\n
\"We were optimistic we could win the gold medals from the very
\nbeginning because we're the top seeds and we really want to try
\nour best for the country. But in the second set, Prima and I
\nstarted to lose concentration because we really wanted the match
\nto end,\" Naharuddin said after the match.<\/p>\n
In the all-Indonesian girls' doubles final, top seeds
\nAngelique Widjaja and Novianti Warsono beat compatriots Frederika
\nGirsang and Mudarwati 6-3, 6-1.<\/p>\n
In the team events, Indonesian girls won the gold medal while
\nthe boys earned the silver medal. Thailand won the boys' team
\nevent.<\/p>\n
Team manager R. Soerjadi said after the match that he was
\nreally proud of the results, which were double the estimate of
\nonly two golds.<\/p>\n
\"This is a delightful moment for us because our athletes can
\nstill show the world their great performance in such a difficult
\nsituation,\" said Soerjadi, who is also the principal of the
\nRagunan Sports School in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"Their development in the future will be the Indonesian Tennis
\nAssociation's (Pelti) responsibility. My school will continue to
\ngroom new talents,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Pelti's official in charge of junior development, Deddy
\nPrasetyo, said the results of four golds, out of the six golds on
\noffer, were extremely satisfying.<\/p>\n
\"Pelti should find sponsors for those players to enable them
\nto continue their international careers in the future. Pelti must
\nalso start to prepare players to compete in junior
\nchampionships,\" he said.<\/p>\n
A Ministry of Education and Culture's Directorate General of
\nExtracurricular Activities and Sports official, Sri Sudono
\nSumarto, has urged sports organizations to pay attention to
\ntalented students.<\/p>\n
\"Sports organizations can use such a championship to give more
\nexperience to students,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Sudono said all participants expressed satisfaction with the
\nchampionships despite a student rally at the time of the
