        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has invited\nthe British government to help ASEAN member states tackle and eradicate\nonline scams.<\/p>\n<p>At the ASEAN-UK Foreign Ministers\u2019 Meeting in Manila, the\nPhilippines, on Wednesday (22 July), Sugiono noted that nearly two in\nthree adults in Southeast Asia have been targeted by online scam\ncrimes.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Sugiono said total\nlosses from such criminal activity could reach US$23.6 billion (around\nRp423 trillion) in a single year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese scam operations may well have originated here in Southeast\nAsia. But the money moves across borders, through the global financial\nsystem and various financial centres; and whatever can be moved can\ncertainly be traced,\u201d Sugiono said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the standard Indonesia is proposing \u2014 cooperation whose\nbenefits can genuinely be felt directly by our people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the online scam sector, Sugiono also invited the United\nKingdom to step up cooperation in the field of energy transition.<\/p>\n<p>He further encouraged the development of equitable access to clean\nenergy for all communities, including those in remote areas, through the\nASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund initiative.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Indonesia also supports stronger collaboration in human\nresource development through the ASEAN-UK Chevening Scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>The United Kingdom has been an ASEAN Dialogue Partner since 2021.\nAttending the high-level meeting in Manila was the newly appointed\nBritish Foreign Minister Ed Miliband, who was sworn in on Monday (20\nJuly) alongside the new British government under Prime Minister Andy\nBurnham.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, in Prime Minister Keir Starmer\u2019s cabinet, Miliband served\nas the minister for energy security and climate.<\/p>",
