        "content": "<p>Indonesia is pushing for regional cooperation to confront the climate\ncrisis at the 9th Committee on Environment and Development (CED9)\nsession, organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission\nfor Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand. Deputy Minister\nof Environment Diaz Hendropriyono led the Indonesian delegation at the\nministerial-level forum, reinforcing the country\u2019s active role in\npromoting regional collaboration to tackle climate change while\naccelerating sustainable development. \u201cEnvironmental protection and\neconomic development must go hand in hand. Only through stronger\nregional cooperation can we build a resilient and sustainable\nAsia-Pacific region,\u201d Diaz stated in an official release in Jakarta on\nSaturday. He also stressed the importance of Indonesia\u2019s efforts to\nstrengthen the continuity between environmental protection and\nsustainable development through an integrated approach, including\nmangrove and peatland restoration, the development of circular economy\nand blue economy initiatives, strengthening sustainable water resource\nmanagement, and enhancing community-based climate change adaptation. The\nCED9 session was attended by 52 ESCAP member states, with the presence\nof 11 ministers and deputy ministers from Bangladesh, Fiji, Maldives,\nNepal, Solomon Islands, Thailand, Japan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka,\nTajikistan, and Indonesia. The forum discussed various strategic issues,\nranging from improving air quality and sustainable water resource\nmanagement to strengthening policies that integrate environmental and\ndevelopment agendas. Indonesia also participated in an associated event\ntitled \u201cAccelerating Integrated Climate Action in Asia and the Pacific:\nRegional Cooperation for Blue Carbon Finance\u201d on 2\u20133 July 2026. In that\nforum, a representative from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and\nFisheries presented Indonesia\u2019s experience in developing blue carbon\nfinance as an instrument to support climate action based on coastal and\nmarine ecosystems. The Indonesian delegation, comprising elements from\nthe Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and\nFisheries, and the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, utilised the series of\nforums to strengthen regional cooperation, promote integrated\ndevelopment policies, and share Indonesia\u2019s experiences in environmental\nmanagement and sustainable development. The CED9 session adopted two\nmain documents, namely the Ministerial Declaration on Environment and\nDevelopment in Asia and the Pacific 2026 and the Regional Programme of\nAction on Advancing Synergies for Sustainable Development in Asia and\nthe Pacific, which are expected to provide a common direction for\nstrengthening environmental and sustainable development cooperation in\nthe Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>",
