        "content": "<p>Indonesia triumphs in SEA rowing<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Junior athletes spurred the Indonesian team on<br>\nto triumph in the fourth Southeast Asian Rowing Championship in<br>\nPasir Ris, Singapore over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Budiman Setiawan, secretary-general of the Indonesian Rowing<br>\nAssociation, said in his release yesterday that the national male<br>\nand female rowers won the two prestigious events on the final<br>\nday, Sunday, to complete their medal haul of eight golds, five<br>\nsilvers and four bronzes.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippines finished a distant second with four golds, two<br>\nsilvers and two bronzes, followed by Myanmar which collected two<br>\ngolds, four silvers and five bronzes.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 109 rowers from six ASEAN members and Cambodia<br>\njoined the three-day competition. The annual event will move to<br>\nIndonesia next year.<\/p>\n<p>The Southeast Asian Rowing Federation also held a congress<br>\nsimultaneously with the competition. The congress elected Rear<br>\nAdmiral (ret.) Sumartono the new chairman of the confederation.<\/p>\n<p>The congress also criticized Thailand for not adopting rowing<br>\nin the medal events for the 18th SEA Games, slated for Dec. 9 to<br>\n17 in Chiang Mai. Thailand took only a bronze in Pasir Ris.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming SEA Games will have seven gold medals at stake in<br>\ntraditional boat races, instead of rowing. Indonesia played down<br>\nits formidable clean sweep in the previous Games, saying that it<br>\nnow sets its sights on just four golds in Chiang Mai. (amd)<\/p>",
