Indonesia to 'sell' carbon emissions<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Indonesian delegation to an environment forum in
\nthe Philippines is set to offer developed countries 13 projects
\nfor carbon emission reduction under the Clean Development
\nMechanism (CDM), says an official.<\/p>\n
Deputy State Minister for Environment Conservation Liana
\nBratasida who will lead the delegation to the Manila meeting
\nscheduled for Sept. 10 to Sept. 12 said that the South East Asia
\nForum on Greenhouse Gas Mitigation, Market Mechanisms and
\nSustainable Development will be the best forum to market CDM
\nprojects in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Indonesia expects to \"sell\" 445,919 tons of carbon to
\ndeveloped countries, she said. Each ton of the reduction in
\ncarbon emissions valued at between US$ 3 to $5.<\/p>\n
CDM is aimed at achieving cost-effective greenhouse gas (GHG)
\nmitigation for industrialized countries by promoting sustainable
\ndevelopment in developing countries.<\/p>\n
For investment, companies in developing countries will earn in
\nreturn certified emission reductions (CERs) that developed
\ncountries may use to meet Kyoto Protocol commitments.<\/p>\n
Indonesia currently has 7 million tons of carbon emission
\nreduction potential that developed countries can pay the
