Indonesia to host Asian dietetics meet<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will host the first Asian conference
\non dietetics in October to review the role of nutrition in
\nimproving the quality of life of the population, an official of
\nthe Ministry of Health said.<\/p>\n
Dr. Muhilal, head of the ministry's nutrition research and
\ndevelopment center, said the Oct. 2-5 conference is expected to
\ndraw 700 dietetic experts and professionals.<\/p>\n
It will feature 50 speakers from Asian countries, including
\nhost Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The meeting is intended to review the problems and solutions
\nto malnutrition and degenerative diseases such as stroke,
\ndiabetes mellitus, cancer and osteoporosis, Muhilal said.<\/p>\n
Modernization will complicate nutritional problems and
\nchallenges in many Asian countries, he said.<\/p>\n
\"The consumption of salty and greasy food will increase while
\nthat of vegetable and fruit will fall, exposing people to various
\ndegenerative diseases,\" Muhilal said.<\/p>\n
An exhibition on nutrition technology featuring 13 local and
\nforeign companies and will be simultaneously held at the Research
