        "content": "<p>\u201cAccording to our calculations and moon-sighting reports, we have\ndetermined the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah to fall on Monday, May 18,\n2026, and that Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27,\n2026,\u201d Minister Nasaruddin Umar announced here on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was made following observations at 88 different\nlocations across Indonesia, where observers found that the crescent\nmoon\u2019s position met the criteria agreed upon by Brunei, Indonesia,\nMalaysia, and Singapore under the MABIMS framework.<\/p>\n<p>The figures fell within the MABIMS visibility criteria, which require\na minimum crescent height of 3\u00b0 and an elongation\u2014the angular distance\nbetween the sun and the moon\u2014of at least 6.4\u00b0 to mark the start of a new\nHijri month.<\/p>\n<p>Umar stated that the decision was reached following deliberations\namong religious scholars, Muslim organization leaders, and astronomers\nafter reviewing the moon-sighting reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Muslim organization Muhammadiyah, which utilizes its own\nastronomical calculations, agreed with the government that this year\u2019s\nEid al-Adha will fall on May 27.
