Indonesia, Thailand plan barter deal<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Indonesian government plans to establish a barter
\narrangement with the Thai government under which Indonesian
\nrailroad cars and ammonia would be swapped for Thai rice,
\nMinister of Industry and Trade Rini M. Soewandi said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Rini said that under the barter scheme, Thailand would send
\n200,000 tons of rice to Indonesia in exchange for 120 railroad
\ncars and an unspecified volume of ammonia.<\/p>\n
Amonia is the main chemical ingredient used in the production
\nof urea fertilizer.<\/p>\n
The railroad cars would be manufactured by state-owned
\nrailroad engineering firm PT INKA.<\/p>\n
Rini did not, however, specify when the barter deal would take
\nplace.<\/p>\n
\"This barter scheme is still at the negotiating stage and is
\npart of the efforts of each country to meet its needs and to
\ndevelop better economic relations between the two countries,\"
