Jakarta: The Ministry of Investment and Downstream\nIndustries\/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the European Union\nDelegation to Indonesia have officially signed a cooperation statement\nfor the establishment of a European Union (EU) Desk, which will operate\nwithin the premises of the Ministry of Investment and Downstream\nIndustries\/BKPM. The initiative aims to attract foreign direct\ninvestment (FDI) from the EU to Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe the presence of the EU Desk will open more communication\nchannels and potential strategic cooperation that can be mutually\nbeneficial,\u201d said Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries\/Head\nof BKPM Rosan Perkasa Roeslani in an official statement on Monday, 16\nJune 2025.<\/p>\n
The EU Desk will serve as a service centre for EU investors wishing\nto invest in Indonesia, with functions encompassing the provision of\nmarket intelligence, business licensing guidance, business cooperation\nfacilitation, identification of potential investment projects, and\nharmonisation of regulatory policies between both parties.<\/p>\n
The cooperation is directed towards sectors relevant to Indonesia\u2019s\nand Europe\u2019s priority policies. This collaboration also reaffirms\nIndonesia\u2019s commitment to remaining open to partnerships with various\nstrategic partners.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are certainly increasingly open to broader cooperation. I believe\nthat with this EU Desk, more partnerships will be created in the\nfuture,\u201d said Rosan.<\/p>\n
He added that the EU Desk is aligned with the acceleration of the\nIndonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement\n(IEU-CEPA), which is expected to be concluded before the end of the\nyear.<\/p>\n
EU Ambassador to Indonesia Denis Chaibi emphasised that the EU Desk\nis not merely a technical facility but a representation of shared\nambitions to deliver high-quality and sustainable investment.<\/p>\n
Denis explained that the EU currently provides total global\ninvestment of USD 11 trillion, yet the share absorbed by Indonesia\nremains relatively low. He therefore affirmed the commitment to\nencouraging diversification of EU investment, with Indonesia as one of\nthe priority destination countries.<\/p>\n
The EU, he said, has strengths in renewable energy, water management,\nwaste processing, and technology.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are the sectors we wish to collaborate on. We want to support\nIndonesia\u2019s efforts to attract more impactful FDI,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
According to data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstream\nIndustries\/BKPM, total realised EU investment during the period from\n2019 to the first quarter of 2025 reached USD 13 billion.<\/p>\n
