        "content": "<p>Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in a statement\nconfirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday that Indonesia\u2019s essential oil exports\nshowed increasingly positive prospects.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, Indonesia\u2019s essential oil exports under HS code 3301 reached\nUS$348.7 million, up 34.4 percent from US$259.5 million in 2024,\naccording to trade data.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian patchouli oil exports reached US$173.4 million in 2025, up\n22.7 percent from US$141.3 million a year earlier, the data showed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis export growth shows that Indonesian essential oils are\ncompetitive and in demand globally,\u201d the minister said, calling for\nstronger industrialization and greater domestic value added.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia was the world\u2019s fifth-largest essential oil exporter in\n2025, after India, the US, France and Brazil. Global essential oil trade\nrose to US$6.49 billion from US$6.29 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The industry still faces challenges in developing derivative products\nwith higher economic value, Agus said.<\/p>\n<p>Patchouli oil has significant development potential, given\nIndonesia\u2019s strong production base and established export markets, the\nminister said.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia ships patchouli oil to India, Singapore, France, Spain, the\nUS, China, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and\nTurkiye.<\/p>\n<p>Putu Juli Ardika, acting director general of agro-industry at the\nIndustry Ministry, said downstream processing could generate\nhigher-value products through refining and fractionation.<\/p>\n<p>Potential derivatives include high-grade patchouli oil, fragrances,\nantiseptics, medicated oils and aromatherapy products, Ardika said.<\/p>\n<p>Stronger downstream processing would expand patchouli oil\u2019s use\nbeyond raw materials to perfume, cosmetics, toiletries, pharmaceutical,\npesticide and aromatherapy industries, Ardika said.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: BRIN-fostered company to develop patchouli oil-based\nskincare products<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Ahmad, Kenzu<\/p>",
