        "content": "<p>The target, backed by about Rp427 billion in funding excluding seed\nprocurement, is part of the government\u2019s long-term strategy to build a\nstronger domestic coconut processing industry under the 2025-2045\nNational Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN), according to the ministry\u2019s\nDirectorate General of Plantations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s target is 151,554 hectares with a budget of around Rp427\nbillion, excluding seeds,\u201d Agus Rosyid, Agricultural Product Quality\nSupervisor at the Directorate General of Plantations, said during a\nwebinar on coconut downstreaming in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The planned expansion marks a sharp increase from last year\u2019s\nprogram, which covered 1,975 hectares with funding of approximately\nRp10.92 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Agus said 28 provinces have been included in the coconut\ndownstreaming development program, which provides farmers with coconut\nseedlings, organic fertilizers, and financial support for land\npreparation and planting.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative is expected to increase raw material supplies for\nprocessing industries, strengthen domestic downstream activities, and\nraise the value added of Indonesia\u2019s coconut sector.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry has also allocated around Rp154.38 billion to develop\nanother 51,721 hectares of coconut downstreaming areas in 2027 as part\nof its longer-term expansion plan.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia remains the world\u2019s second-largest coconut producer, with\nannual production reaching about 2.132 million tons, Agus said.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s coconut plantations cover around 3.2 million hectares,\nwith about 98 percent managed by smallholder farmers.<\/p>\n<p>However, national productivity remains relatively low at around 1.1\ntons per hectare annually, well below the estimated production potential\nof 3.5 to 5 tons per hectare per year.<\/p>\n<p>Agus said improving productivity remains one of the biggest\nchallenges facing Indonesia\u2019s coconut industry, alongside aging\nplantations and limited domestic downstream processing capacity.<\/p>\n<p>To support the development of an integrated coconut downstream\necosystem, the government is partnering with state-owned plantation\ncompany PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN), private firms, and Indonesia\u2019s\nsovereign wealth fund Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara), he added.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia to expand coconut, CPO exports to Lebanon:\nminister<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Banyumas \u2018ant sugar\u2019 eyes global market dominance:\nMinister<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Shofi Ayudiana, Martha Herlinawati Simanjuntak<\/p>",
