        "content": "<p>Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - Indonesia\u2019s Animal, Fish,\nand Plant Quarantine Agency in Bangka Belitung Islands Province is\nstrengthening oversight of Muntok white pepper exports to encourage\nfarmers to continue developing the region\u2019s flagship export\ncommodity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe international market continues to show strong demand for white\npepper,\u201d Head of the Bangka Belitung Islands Quarantine Agency\nHerwintarti said in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The Quarantine Agency, in collaboration with the Bangka Belitung\nIslands provincial government, has intensified support for white pepper\nexports through the Go Export Program to maintain farmers\u2019 enthusiasm\nfor cultivating the commodity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe export potential of white pepper remains very high, and we want\nthis commodity to continue as one of the provincial government\u2019s\npriority programs to improve both production and quality,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>According to data from Best Trust (Barantin Electronic System for\nTransaction and Utility Service Technology), white pepper exports from\nBangka Belitung reached 1.37 thousand tons through 184 shipments in\n2025, with a total value of Rp180 billion (approximately US$9.7\nmillion).<\/p>\n<p>Domestic distribution of white pepper reached 6,323 tons through 308\nshipments, with a total value of Rp535.89 billion (approximately US$28.8\nmillion).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main export destinations for Bangka Belitung\u2019s white pepper\ninclude Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, and Taiwan,\u201d Herwintarti\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Head of the Bangka Belitung Islands Agriculture and Food\nSecurity Agency (DPKP) Kurniawan said the provincial government\ncontinues to develop smallholder pepper plantations to increase\nproduction of the export commodity.<\/p>\n<p>Based on provincial agricultural data, white pepper plantations in\n2025 totaled 9,646.96 tons, spread across Bangka District (1,198.68\ntons), Belitung (3,831.82 tons), West Bangka (115.91 tons), and Bangka\nBelitung (115.91 tons).<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Central Bangka District recorded 161.36 tons, South\nBangka District recorded 3,331.45 tons, and East Belitung District\nrecorded 1,007.73 tons.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison, white pepper production in 2024 reached 12,008.66\ntons, comprising 878.78 tons in Bangka District, 4,321.86 tons in\nBelitung District, 1,502.70 tons in West Bangka District, 225.60 tons in\nCentral Bangka District, 3,893.06 tons in South Bangka District, and\n1,186.66 tons in East Belitung District.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decline in white pepper production was mainly caused by the\nshrinking plantation area due to land conversion to oil palm plantations\nand other uses,\u201d Kurniawan said.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia eyes Japan to boost white and black pepper\nexports<\/p>\n<p>Related news: White pepper in Babel losing ground to tin and palm\noil<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia steps up Muntok white pepper exports<\/p>\n<p>July 19, 2026 16:13 GMT+700<\/p>\n<p>Illustration - White pepper plantations in Bangka.\n\/ANTARA\/Aprionis.<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Aprionis, Resinta Sulistiyandari<\/p>",
