        "content": "<p>Indonesia introduced the Red and White Fishing Village (Kampung\nNelayan Merah Putih, KNMP) in Lateng, Banyuwangi, to the ASEAN-ID Blue\ndelegation as an example of the country\u2019s blue economy implementation,\nintegrating the strengthening of fishermen\u2019s livelihoods, cooperatives,\nMSMEs and community-based tourism.<\/p>\n<p>The Acting Director-General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of\nMarine and Fisheries Products at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and\nFisheries (KKP), Erwin Dwiyana, said KNMP is a derivative of the blue\neconomy policy in the marine and fisheries sector that Indonesia has\nbeen promoting in various international forums.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKNMP Lateng is one of the President\u2019s national priority programmes\naimed at strengthening coastal communities through fisheries-based\neconomic development,\u201d Erwin said in a statement from the KKP in Jakarta\non Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The ASEAN-ID Blue delegation\u2019s visit to KNMP Lateng on 17-18 July\n2026 formed part of a forum series organised by the Ministry of Foreign\nAffairs in cooperation with the Banyuwangi Regency Government and the\nNew Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.<\/p>\n<p>The forum carried the theme \u201cCommunity-Led Blue Economy: Advancing\nCoastal Conservation, Sustainable Livelihoods and Tourism\nCooperation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to Erwin, KNMP Lateng was chosen as the visit location\nbecause it illustrates an integrated fisheries value chain, ranging from\ncooperative-based economic activities and MSME development to culinary\nentrepreneurship, as well as community participation in improving\nlivelihoods and creating added value in coastal areas.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Rahmat Iman Santoso, Director of Business Empowerment at the\nKKP\u2019s Directorate-General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of\nMarine and Fisheries Products, said the development of KNMP aims to\nimprove fishermen\u2019s welfare by strengthening their capacity to manage\nfisheries businesses more professionally, thereby increasing added value\nand competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>He added that KNMP Lateng has different characteristics compared with\nother fishing villages because it develops a culinary centre with\nbuilding designs adopting the traditional architecture of the Osing\npeople.<\/p>\n<p>During the visit, the ASEAN-ID Blue delegation inspected various\nfacilities at KNMP Lateng, including supply kiosks, a fishermen\u2019s\npavilion, an ice factory, refrigerated vehicles and a culinary\ncentre.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation also viewed an exhibition of fishery products from\nboth large-scale fish processing units and MSMEs mentored by the\nBanyuwangi Regency Fisheries Office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope the participants are impressed by the blue economy\nimplementation at KNMP Lateng while also getting to know the area\u2019s\ndistinctive products. That way, the goal of improving fishermen\u2019s\nwelfare can be achieved,\u201d said Ali.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN-ID Blue is a learning and experience-sharing forum combining\npolicy dialogue, field visits and the involvement of various\nstakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The forum aims to promote best practices in coastal conservation,\nsustainable livelihoods and community-based tourism as an implementation\nof the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework and the ASEAN Outlook on the\nIndo-Pacific (AOIP), while strengthening collaboration among ASEAN\ncountries, the East Asia Summit (EAS) and members of the Pacific Islands\nForum (PIF).<\/p>",
