        "content": "<p>Sumarjaya, the ministry\u2019s Director of Health Surveillance and\nQuarantine, said 16 suspected cases were identified between 2024 and\n2026, but all tested negative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the lab results were negative,\u201d he said during an online\ndiscussion.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry data showed that of the 16 suspected cases, two were\nreported in 2026 \u2014 one in Central Java and one in North Sulawesi \u2014 and\nboth were ruled out. Nine suspected cases were recorded in 2025 and five\nin 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The provinces reporting suspected infections over the three-year\nperiod were Riau, West Java, Central Java, North Sulawesi and West\nKalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>Sumarjaya said Indonesia faces potential risks due to the presence of\nfruit bats, known natural carriers of the Nipah virus, as the country\nlies within their habitat range.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Nipah symptoms appear within 4\u201314 days during\nincubation: Ministry<\/p>\n<p>Other risk factors include high cross-border mobility and geographic\nproximity to countries that have reported cases, such as Malaysia,\nSingapore and the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the practice of hunting and consuming bats in several\nregions could also increase the risk of transmission.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities are therefore strengthening preventive measures,\nincluding tighter monitoring at ports, airports and other entry points\nfor international travelers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know transmission occurs through close contact.
