Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia has recorded the highest\nnational rice stocks in history at 5.3 million tons, according to\nAgriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank God, today we have reached our highest stock level in history,\nat 5.3 million tons. Hopefully, by the end of the month, it continues\nincrease to 5.5 million tons. This is the highest level since the\nRepublic\u2019s independence,\u201d Amran said here on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that with these substantial stocks, farmers\u2019 welfare has\nsignificantly improved, with the highest farmer exchange rate in 33\nyears - according to the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data.<\/p>\n<p>He also mentioned that the GDP of the agricultural sector jumped from\n0.67 percent to 5.7 percent during President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s\nadministration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow it is up 5.7 percent, the highest in 25 years and perhaps the\nhighest in history,\u201d Amran noted.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, citing both data from the BPS as well as the Food and\nAgriculture Organization (FAO), he stated that Indonesia\u2019s national rice\nproduction is around 34.6 million tons, with a surplus of around 4\nmillion tons.<\/p>\n<p>He compared the current rice stock levels to those during President\nSoeharto\u2019s era in 1984, when Indonesia received an FAO award for its 2.6\nmillion tons of national rice stocks.<\/p>\n<p>With over 5 million tons of current rice stocks, the state-owned\nlogistics company Bulog needs to rent additional warehouses to store the\nstocks.<\/p>\n<p>Langgeng Wisnu Adinugroho, head of Bulog\u2019s East Java Region, said\nthat his office continues to increase warehousing capacity to\naccommodate the increasing food stocks during the harvest season.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Bulog East Java has 223 warehouses, of which 190 of them\nare rented, with a total capacity of 650,000 tons.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the occupancy rate of these rented warehouses has\nnow reached around 80 percent.
