        "content": "<p>Finance Ministry Spokesperson Deni Surjantoro said in Jakarta on\nMonday that Indonesia has steadily improved its ranking since the index\nwas first introduced.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia ranked 15th in 2023, rose to second place in 2024, and\nreached the top position this year.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia\u2019s score this year surpassed several advanced economies,\nincluding South Korea, Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and\nFrance.<\/p>\n<p>GTETI is the world\u2019s first comparative index assessing global tax\nexpenditure reporting practices.<\/p>\n<p>The index is based on data from the Global Tax Expenditures Database\n(GTED) and ranks countries according to the consistency, quality, and\nscope of published tax incentive reports.<\/p>\n<p>The TER allows the public to monitor various tax incentives provided\nby the government.<\/p>\n<p>The report includes information on incentive values, policy\nobjectives, tax categories, beneficiary sectors, and their contribution\nto economic growth and public welfare.<\/p>\n<p>The Finance Ministry said the TER forms part of state budget\ngovernance by ensuring tax incentives can be publicly monitored.<\/p>\n<p>Deni said incentives listed in the TER reflect the government\u2019s\nsupport for households and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs),\nwhile also strengthening the investment climate.<\/p>\n<p>Households and MSMEs received more than 70 percent of total tax\nexpenditures, or around Rp389 trillion (US$23.9 billion), in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The incentives supported essential needs, including food, housing,\neducation, healthcare, transportation, and other public services.<\/p>\n<p>Deni added that the incentives also supported job creation and\nimproved living standards.<\/p>\n<p>He said the ministry remains committed to strengthening tax\nexpenditure transparency as part of accountable and sustainable fiscal\ngovernance.<\/p>\n<p>The effort will continue through improved reporting quality,\nmonitoring, and evaluation to ensure incentives remain measurable and\ndeliver optimal economic benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia eyes coal windfall to shield budget amid\nglobal tensions<\/p>\n<p>Related news: RI plans USD2.3 bln stimulus coinciding with VAT\nincrease<\/p>\n<p>Translator: TImamatul Silfia, Tegar Nurfitra<\/p>",
