Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot\nTanjung said the energy transition is becoming increasingly\ncritical.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGlobal geopolitical conditions can affect a country\u2019s energy\nsecurity. Conflicts in strategic regions have the potential to disrupt\nglobal energy supply chains,\u201d Yuliot said during the opening ceremony of\nIndosolar 2026 at the Fairmont Jakarta on Wednesday, August 19,\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>Such disruptions, he added, can trigger price increases and reduce\nenergy availability, ultimately putting pressure on public purchasing\npower and the national economy.<\/p>\n<p>Yuliot said the government continues to expand the use of new and\nrenewable energy (NRE) as part of efforts to maintain national energy\nsecurity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government aims for the NRE mix to reach 18 to 21 percent by\n2026. Indonesia has a renewable energy potential of around 6,600\ngigawatts (GW) from solar and geothermal sources,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, only about 16 GW, or less than 0.5 percent, has been\nutilized. According to Yuliot, solar energy also has the potential to\nreduce carbon emissions and create opportunities in the carbon\nmarket.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond solar energy, the government is promoting energy\ndiversification through biodiesel. The B40 biodiesel program is part of\nefforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>Waste management also has the potential to support the energy\ntransition by converting organic waste into biogas and other alternative\nenergy sources. Non\u2011recyclable waste can be processed into energy or\nfuel.<\/p>\n<p>Yuliot said international cooperation is essential for accelerating\nthe energy transition. One example is Indonesia\u2019s collaboration with\nGermany in developing clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis cooperation includes technological support, capacity building,\nand investment.
