Stem cell therapy is not a service that can be provided without\nstrong clinical governance and oversight,Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health\nMinistry\u2019s Director of Referral Health Service Development, Yanti\nHerman, has encouraged the development of stem cell therapy into a safe\nmedical service that provides real benefits to patients.<\/p>\n
At the \u201cUpdate on Stem Cell Therapy and Its Derivatives in Indonesia\u201d\nevent here on Saturday, Herman\u2019s remarks were read out by Sri Nuraini,\nHead of the Regenerative Therapy and Medical Innovation Working\nGroup.<\/p>\n
\u201cStem cell therapy and its derivative products, such as secretome,\nexosomes, and extracellular vesicles, offer hope for patients with\nvarious diseases that were previously difficult to treat, including in\northopedics, aesthetics, neurology, and other fields,\u201d Herman said in\nher statement.<\/p>\n
She added that the Health Ministry emphasized three key points in the\ndiscussion, including the need for the public to have accurate\ninformation about stem cell-based therapies, including their proven\nbenefits, appropriate indications, potential risks, and limitations.<\/p>\n
\u201cPublic education is very important so that people can distinguish\nbetween promising innovations and therapy claims that are not yet\nsupported by adequate scientific evidence,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In addition, such therapies must be administered by competent medical\npersonnel using products that meet established requirements and are\nproduced by licensed stem cell processing laboratories, with traceable\nservices and proper monitoring.<\/p>\n

The Health Ministry also called for the strengthening of the\nregenerative therapy ecosystem, particularly stem cell therapy, through\nregulatory development, research hospitals, expanded laboratory\ncapacity, and stronger systems for recording and monitoring patient\noutcomes.<\/p>\n
According to Herman, the goal of developing stem cell therapy is not\nmerely to introduce new technology but to ensure that it can be\ntranslated into safe, high-quality, evidence-based services that provide\nreal benefits to patients.<\/p>\n
Stem cell services cover a series of medical procedures, from the\ncollection, storage, and processing of cells to the administration of\ntherapy from donor to recipient. Such therapies may be autologous, using\nthe patient\u2019s own cells, or allogeneic, using cells from public donors,\nand must meet quality, safety, and efficacy standards.<\/p>\n
