        "content": "<p>The Indonesian government has highlighted its Free Nutritious Meal\nProgramme (MBG) during side events at the 61st session of the United\nNations Human Rights Council held at UN Headquarters in Geneva,\nSwitzerland, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The Director-General of Human Rights Services and Compliance,\nMunafrizal Manan, stated that the MBG has reached approximately 61.6\nmillion beneficiaries by March 2026. \u201cThis includes schoolchildren,\ntoddlers, and pregnant and nursing mothers through more than 24,000\nservice facilities across Indonesia,\u201d Manan said in an official\nstatement.<\/p>\n<p>Manan presented these figures during a side event organised by the\nIndonesian government titled \u201cIndonesia\u2019s Free Nutritious Meal Program:\nA Rights-Based Investment in Human Dignity\u201d in Geneva on Thursday, 12\nMarch 2026.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the MBG aims to improve nutritional status for the\ncurrent and future generations, whilst supporting student participation\nand learning quality in schools. The programme is expected to contribute\nto long-term economic development through the creation of a healthier\nand more productive generation.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed the MBG has generated significant economic impact by\ncreating more than one million jobs. It also involves approximately\n35,000 food suppliers, including cooperatives and micro, small, and\nmedium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across various regions.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the MBG holds considerable importance in advancing\nhuman rights, particularly in fulfilling the right to food, health,\neducation, social security, and adequate standards of living.<\/p>\n<p>The side event featured several international panellists, including\nrepresentatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World\nFood Programme (WFP), and permanent representatives of France, Cuba, and\nFinland to the UN in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>The activity was attended by representatives from various countries\nand civil society organisations who participated in discussions\nregarding strengthening the right to food as part of inclusive and\nsustainable development.<\/p>",
