        "content": "<p>The President has instructed us to prepare the programmeJakarta\n(ANTARA) - Indonesia\u2019s Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the\ngovernment is preparing a stimulus package for the second half of 2026\nto mitigate the impacts of El Nino, which has been active since June and\ncould affect various sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Sadewa said President Prabowo Subianto had instructed the\ngovernment to finalise the stimulus package promptly as a precautionary\nmeasure against the potential economic impacts of El Nino.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President has instructed us to prepare the programme,\u201d he said\nduring a media briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The government has yet to determine the budget allocation and details\nof the programme, he added.<\/p>\n<p>He said the discussions on the programmes are still underway and the\nministry is awaiting proposals from relevant technical ministries or\nagencies before finalising the stimulus package.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce it has been completed, we will implement it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: BNPB confirms two helicopters to combat Bromo National\nPark fire<\/p>\n<p>The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has stated\nthat El Nino has reached the strong category and could intensify further\ninto a very strong event, raising the risk of a drier and longer dry\nseason in several areas of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The Agency\u2019s Head Teuku Faisal Fathani said on Tuesday (Aug 4) that\nlatest monitoring showed El Nino-Southern Oscillation index had reached\n+1.59, placing the phenomenon in a strong category.<\/p>\n<p>BMKG also noted that rainfall during August to September 2026 is\nforecast to remain in the low to a very low category before the rainy\nseason begins in mid-October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The impacts are expected to be felt mainly in areas south of the\nequator, including East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Bali, Java,\nsouthern Sumatra, and southern Papua.<\/p>\n<p>The agency also warned El Nino could affect various sectors,\nincluding agriculture, clean water supply, reservoir and irrigation\nmanagement, forest and land fires, energy, public health, fisheries, and\nwider economic activities.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Gov\u2019t confirms funding for El Nino response\nsufficient<\/p>\n<p>Related news: BMKG calls for planting pattern adjustments amid El\nNio<\/p>\n<p>Translator: Bayu Prasetyo<\/p>",
