        "content": "<p>\u201cAll agricultural machinery provided by the government must be\nstrictly used for productive purposes,\u201d Agriculture Minister Andi Amran\nSulaiman said in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>He instructed provincial offices of the ministry\u2019s Agricultural\nInstrument Standardization Agency (BRMP) to submit detailed reports on\nthe distribution and use of tractors, combine harvesters and other\nequipment.<\/p>\n<p>The reports must outline the machinery\u2019s condition, location and\ncontribution to local farm output.<\/p>\n<p>Sulaiman, who also heads the National Food Agency (Bapanas), warned\nthat underutilized equipment could be redistributed to areas with\ngreater need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will take legal action against anyone selling the machinery, in\ncoordination with law enforcers,\u201d he said, stressing that misuse would\nnot be tolerated.<\/p>\n<p>He clarified that the machinery is not provided as free grants.\nFarmers may rent the equipment at competitive rates \u2014 a policy aimed at\nraising productivity while protecting private rental businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are taking a middle path: easing farmers\u2019 costs without making\nthe equipment free, so local businesses can continue to grow,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the government allocated Rp10 trillion (around US$637\nmillion) for farm machinery assistance, including two- and four-wheeled\ntractors, combine harvesters, rice transplanters and water pumps.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia to facilitate, not finance, $4.5 billion US\nfarm imports<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia says zero-tariff US farm imports won\u2019t hurt\nlocal industry<\/p>\n<p>Translator: M.
