The region lies along the Pacific Ocean, where\nthe Pacific Plate meets and interacts with various other surrounding\ntectonic plates.<\/p>\n
The collision of these plates frequently causes earthquakes and\nvolcanic eruptions in the region.<\/p>\n
The majority of the world\u2019s roughly 1,350 potentially active\nvolcanoes are located along the Pacific Ring of Fire.<\/p>\n
Why Is Indonesia Called Part of the Ring of Fire?<\/p>\n
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency\n(BMKG), Indonesia sits at the very heart of the Ring of Fire owing to\nits unique geographical and geological conditions. The meeting of major\ntectonic plates: Indonesia lies at the point where three of the world\u2019s\ngiant tectonic plates converge \u2014 the Indo-Australian, Eurasian, and\nPacific plates.<\/p>\n
The interaction and movement of these plates causes energy to\naccumulate beneath the Earth\u2019s crust, which is sometimes released\nsuddenly, triggering tectonic earthquakes. As a result of lying along\nthe Ring of Fire\u2019s plate boundaries, Indonesia has a great many active\nvolcanoes.<\/p>\n

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto said the government would\nsignificantly increase budget allocations for disaster mitigation. This\nis considered essential given that Indonesia lies within the Pacific\nRing of Fire, making it vulnerable to a wide range of natural\ndisasters.<\/p>\n
\u201cA country located within the Ring of Fire means we must be ready to\nface circumstances like this at any moment,\u201d Prabowo said during a\nlimited meeting on natural disaster management with regional heads held\nvirtually on Monday (7\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cThat means it is perhaps also a lesson for us, for the government I\nlead \u2014 the budget allocation for disaster mitigation must be increased\nsignificantly,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Prabowo assessed that his government is now better able to handle\ndisasters compared to previous years. He cited the disaster responses in\nseveral parts of Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West\nSumatra.<\/p>\n
