Eleven memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Indonesia and\nJapan were officially signed at the Indonesia-Japan Strategic\nPartnership Forum held in Tokyo, Japan. This signing represents a\nconcrete step in strengthening the strategic cooperation between the two\ncountries, particularly in the energy, industry, and technology\nsectors.<\/p>\n
The agreements took place amid the momentum of President Prabowo\nSubianto\u2019s official visit to Japan. As part of the visit, the Indonesian\nChamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) organised a forum themed\nIndonesia-Japan Value Co-Creation: Building the Future of Energy,\nIndustry, and Global Supply Chains at The Imperial Hotel Tokyo on Monday\n(30\/3).<\/p>\n
The forum was organised by Kadin Indonesia in collaboration with the\nJapan External Trade Organization, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and\nIndustry, and the Japan Business Federation. The event was also\nsupported by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, the Japan Chamber of\nCommerce and Industry, the Japan Indonesia Association, and the\nIndonesian Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming\/BKPM.<\/p>\n
President Prabowo, who attended the forum in person, emphasised that\nJapan is an important partner for Indonesia. He noted that the economic\nrelations between the two countries have been strong for decades, with\nsignificant contributions from Japanese companies in various sectors of\nnational development.<\/p>\n
\u201cJapan has consistently supported Indonesia\u2019s economic development.\nMany of you have been part of that journey and know Indonesia well, from\nits people, market, culture, to its potential,\u201d the President stated in\nan official remark.<\/p>\n
In his speech, the Head of State also stressed that his presence was\nnot only to continue existing partnerships but to elevate them to a\nhigher and faster level. He viewed close cooperation as key in an\nincreasingly interconnected world, which can create sustainable peace\nand friendship.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Kadin Indonesia General Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie\nstated that future challenges demand more progressive steps, especially\nto push Indonesia out of the middle-income trap. According to him,\ninvestment and innovation are key to driving higher economic growth.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted the importance of business resilience and\nadaptation amid global uncertainties, including the impact of\ngeopolitical conflicts on the world economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe main point is how we can survive in this business,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In agreement, Chairman of the Japan Bilateral Committee of Kadin\nIndonesia Muhammad Lutfi emphasised that the Indonesia-Japan partnership\nmust continue to be directed towards strengthening investment and\nconcrete collaboration. According to him, the value co-creation concept\ncan drive growth, innovation, and Indonesia\u2019s competitiveness through\nsynergies in the industry, energy, and global supply chain sectors.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, 11 strategic MoUs were announced in the presence of\nPresident Prabowo, covering a wide range of sectors from energy,\nindustry, finance, to technology. The total value of bilateral trade\nbetween the two countries currently stands at around $23.6 billion.<\/p>\n
Some of the collaborations signed include the partnership between\nJCCI and Kadin Indonesia in trade and investment; cooperation between\nInpex and PT Pertamina (Persero) in the development of the Abadi Gas\nField in the Masela Block; strengthening the upstream oil and gas sector\nwith PT Pertamina Hulu Energi; and geothermal energy development with PT\nSupreme Energy Rajabasa.<\/p>\n
Additionally, there is collaboration on developing a semiconductor\necosystem between Hayashi Kinzoku and PT Eblo Teknologi Indonesia\nDevelopment; support for the national gold ecosystem between PT Bank\nSMBC Indonesia and PT Pegadaian; and the establishment of an aviation\nleasing fund involving SMBC Aviation Capital, Danantara, and Mandiri\nInvestment Management.<\/p>\n
Other collaborations include strengthening investment between the\nJapan External Trade Organization (Jetro) and Danantara Investment\nManagement, methanol production based on carbon emission utilisation by\nPT Kaltim Methanol Industri and PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur, and the\ndevelopment of the Hululais geothermal power plant through a partnership\nwith the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Indonesian\nGovernment. Proposals for sister park cooperation between\nFuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and Kerinci Seblat National Park, Bromo\nTengger Semeru National Park, and Mount Rinjani National Park.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni met with representatives of\nthe Japanese Government to strengthen cooperation in conservation area\nmanagement. The Japanese Ministry of Environment welcomed the proposal\nand encouraged concrete follow-up through technical workshops.<\/p>\n
President Prabowo Subianto met with Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the\nImperial Palace in Tokyo (30\/3).
