The Indonesian government has issued a new regulation on food\nsecurity. The regulation is Government Regulation Number 1 of 2026 on\nFood Security. This regulation amends Government Regulation Number 86 of\n2019.<\/p>\n
Deputy for Coordination of Food Affordability and Security at the\nCoordinating Ministry for Food, Nani Hendiarti, stated that the PP,\nestablished on 5 January 2026, aims to strengthen food quality\nstandards, reorganise the supervision of processed\/fresh foods, and\nappoint the Coordinating Ministry for Food to coordinate in cases of\nfood security emergencies. She revealed that one aspect regulated in\nthis regulation is how to prevent unsafe food ingredients from being\nconsumed by the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, this is the public that we must protect,\u201d said Nani at the Food\nSummit 2026 at Menara Bank Mega, Jakarta, on Monday (27\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
The second important aspect is how to strengthen integrated national\nfood security supervision. The regulation involves many parties in food\nsecurity, such as the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), the\nMinistry of Health, and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries\n(KKP).<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is very important about PP 1? The second point on integrated\nfood security is that many entities are involved in Indonesia, divided\ninto six groups under the PP mandate. Processed foods under BPOM\u2014PP 86\nhas clarified that industrial processed foods are under BPOM, household\nindustry processed foods under local government, ready-to-eat foods\nunder the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n
\u201cFresh foods from animals and fish under KKP, plants under Bapanas\n(National Food Agency). This must be synergistic and integrated to avoid\noverlaps. PP 1 can be implemented in tandem and coordinated starting\nfrom the Coordinating Ministry for Food. This is one of the tasks given\nto the Coordinating Minister because the impact is not only on health\nbut also on the economy,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Government Regulation Number 1 of 2026 is implemented in\nthe Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. According to her, MBG needs\nto improve the quality of food security, governance, and nutrition.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy is it more important? More specifically, in the Presidential\nRegulation that regulates MBG governance, it is divided into two: BGN\nimplementation and a larger part involving support from other\nministries\/institutions\u201418 ministries\/institutions involved in the MBG\nimplementation process,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
With the existence of PP Number 1 of 2026, all food security\ngovernance will be commanded by the Coordinating Minister for Food.<\/p>\n
