This strategic invitation was delivered before international\ninvestors and business leaders at the Canada-ASEAN Business Council\n(CABC) Executive Dialogue, held as part of the Canada Investment Summit\nin Toronto, Canada, on Monday, September 14, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndonesia offers a market for Canadian and ASEAN investors that is\nnot only large, but also stable and disciplined in managing its growth,\u201d\nhe stated.<\/p>\n<p>As the foundation for this cooperation, Airlangga explained that the\nICA-CEPA was signed by the trade ministers of both countries and\nwitnessed by their respective heads of state in Ottawa, Canada, in 2025.\nThe agreement serves not only as Canada\u2019s first bilateral trade pact\nwith an ASEAN member state, but also marks Indonesia\u2019s first\ncomprehensive economic partnership in the North American region.<\/p>\n<p>To foster a robust partnership, under this agreement Canada has\ncommitted to eliminating or reducing tariffs on over 90 percent of\ntariff lines for Indonesian products. Reciprocally, Indonesia will do\nthe same for nearly 86 percent of tariff lines for Canadian\nproducts.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the ICA-CEPA opens up extensive cooperation\nopportunities in key sectors that complement the strengths of both\ncountries. These strategic sectors include downstream processing of\ncritical minerals such as nickel and battery materials, clean and\nrenewable energy, sustainable agri-food and fisheries, infrastructure\ndevelopment, as well as financial services and the digital economy.<\/p>\n<p>To optimize these potentials, Airlangga specifically invited\ninvestors and business actors to further explore these sectors,\nemphasizing that the Indonesian Government is actively establishing a\nconducive framework to support them. He noted that dialogues with the\nbusiness community are crucial because they will serve as the spearhead\nin translating the benefits of the ICA-CEPA into concrete realities once\nthe agreement takes effect. Therefore, business readiness needs to be\nbuilt from an early stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s dialogue is important because, ultimately, business players\nsuch as CABC members are the ones who will bring the ICA-CEPA to life. I\nencourage this forum to serve as a two-way exchange of ideas, and I also\nhope that the feedback gathered today can be translated into concrete\nfollow-up actions,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>This consistency in strengthening bilateral cooperation was also\nreflected in other events throughout the series.
