Indonesia in danger?<\/p>\n
Some rectors of state and private universities have publicly
\ndeclared that Indonesia is entering a dangerous stage.<\/p>\n
Similar statements have also been made by observers and
\npoliticians. They jokingly ask daily if Indonesia will exist next
\nyear. In reality, the joke contains the message that the current
\nsituation is really chaotic.<\/p>\n
The chaotic situation is reflected by, among other things, the
\nissuance of the regulation on terrorism in law of law (Perpu).<\/p>\n
Soon after the Bali blast, all fingers pointed at our
\nintelligence system, which was found to be very weak.
\nIntelligence agencies responded by saying that there was no legal
\ncoordinating board to make their performance more effective. As
\nthe Criminal Code (KUHP) lacks the "teeth" to curb terror-related
\ncases, and as there is no antiterrorism law, the Perpu was
\nproposed. Ironically, many oppose and criticize the Perpu, while
\nthose in favor of the Perpu just keep silent.<\/p>\n
Criticism to the police's performance in connection to solving
\nBali bombing is also a good example. Almost all people say that
\nthe police are unprofessional. However, when the police worked
\nhard and announced the results (of the investigation), most
\npeople cynically expressed their lack of confidence in the
\npolice's findings. They even accused the police of orchestrating
\nthings.<\/p>\n
From the two examples we could conclude that the rectors'
\nstatements are not wrong. The statements are underlined by the
\nfact that our leaders have their own political agenda, instead of
\nthe spirit of togetherness to work for the nation.<\/p>\n
