        "content": "<p>Indonesia has executed 11 convicts<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Indonesia has executed only 11 of 70 convicts who<br>\nwere sentenced to death since its independence in 1945, an<br>\nofficial said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman for the Attorney General's Office Kemas Yahya Rahman<br>\nsaid the number excluded three convicted perpetrators of the Bali<br>\nbombings who were charged under the antiterrorism law.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the convicts on death row were sentenced either for<br>\ndrug charges or premeditated murder, Kemas said.<\/p>\n<p>Those executed before the firing squad were Karta Cahyadi bin<br>\nYongki (Jakarta, 1995 for murder), Usen (1978, Surabaya), Hengki<br>\nTupawel (1980, East Java), Kusni Kasdut (1980, Surabaya), Roestom<br>\nalias Hasyim (1985, Pamekasan in East Java), Gatot Sutardjo<br>\n(1985, Pamekasan), Sukarman alias Bedjo (1987, Pamekasan), Adi<br>\nSaputro (1992, Surabaya), Katjong Laranu (1995 in Palu, Central<br>\nSulawesi), Fredik Soru and Gerson Panjie (2001 in East Nusa<br>\nTenggara).<\/p>\n<p>Of the remaining convicts facing execution, 14 have demanded a<br>\nreview of their cases, 25 have asked for clemency, 15 are waiting<br>\nto hear the Supreme Court's verdict of their appeal and five died<br>\nin prison.<\/p>\n<p>President Megawati Soekarnoputri rejected in February the<br>\nrequest of six drug dealers for clemency. -- Antara<\/p>",
