        "content": "<p>Head of the Banda Aceh Customs and Excise Supervision and Service\nOffice, Rahmat Priyandoko, said on Thursday that the suspect was\narrested on July 1 after officers received intelligence indicating a\npossible smuggling attempt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGP was arrested for illegally transporting gold bars. GP was a\npassenger on a commercial flight bound for Malaysia,\u201d Priyandoko\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Acting on the intelligence, the joint team monitored outbound\npassengers and became suspicious of GP. A subsequent inspection\nuncovered two gold bars weighing a total of 2,989 grams concealed inside\na small bag he was carrying.<\/p>\n<p>According to Priyandoko, the suspect allegedly failed to declare the\ngold in an attempt to evade export duties regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the initial investigation, the foreign national did not\nprovide information on the items he was carrying to avoid export\nduties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the Ministry of Trade\u2019s reference price, the confiscated\ngold is estimated to be worth Rp7.2 billion (approximately\nUS$389,000).<\/p>\n<p>The case marks the second attempted gold smuggling operation\nuncovered at Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport.
