Demand for data center capacity in Indonesia is surging,\nwith customers facing waiting periods of six months to a year to secure\nthe capacity they need, an executive at state investment agency\nDanantara Indonesia said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Danantara Chief Technology Officer Sigit Puji Santosa said demand is\nso strong that newly built data center capacity could be absorbed by the\nmarket almost immediately.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we build 100 megawatts or 200 megawatts of capacity, it will be\ntaken up immediately,\u201d Sigit said in Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>He said Indonesia is experiencing a shortage of data center capacity\nas demand for digital infrastructure continues to grow rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemand for data centers is extraordinarily high, creating a\nshortage. Customers have to wait six months, or even up to a year,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia currently has around 45 large-scale data centers, but\nexisting capacity has yet to keep pace with the country\u2019s growing\ndigital infrastructure needs, according to Sigit.<\/p>\n<p>Danantara is prepared to participate in expanding the sector,\nincluding by supporting the technology and other components required by\nthe data center industry, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond data centers, Danantara is also focusing on semiconductor\ndevelopment, particularly artificial intelligence chips, as demand for\nadvanced computing hardware accelerates globally.<\/p>\n<p>Danantara has established a partnership with UK-based semiconductor\ncompany Arm to develop chip designs, with several Indonesian state-owned\nenterprises also involved in the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Sigit said global demand for AI chips is rising sharply, creating\nopportunities for Indonesia to develop a broader digital technology\necosystem.<\/p>\n<p>Danantara plans to support the development of digital infrastructure\nacross systems, subsystems, and components to capture opportunities\narising from the industry\u2019s growth, he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Indonesia still faces significant obstacles to expanding its\ndigital infrastructure, including constraints on electricity supply as\nwell as complex processes and regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe challenges are considerable, but so are the opportunities,\u201d\nSigit said.<\/p>\n<p>Tags: Keywords:<\/p>",
