Indonesia extends lead in Fed Cup<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia extended its lead on Wednesday in Pool
\nA of the Federation Cup Asia-Oceania group one qualifying round,
\nbeating South Korea 2-1 at the Yang Min Tennis Center in Kao
\nHsiung, Chinese Taipei.<\/p>\n
Senior player Romana Tedjakusuma unexpectedly bowed out to
\nSouth Korean Chung Yang-jin 4-6, 3-6 in the first singles match
\nbut junior Wynne Prakusya managed to equal the ties after
\noutclassing Chae Kyung-yee 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.<\/p>\n
In the decisive doubles match, the partnership of veteran
\nYayuk Basuki and Wynne boosted Indonesia's winning streak by
\ndefeating Chung and Chae 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).<\/p>\n
The match was delayed for more than three hours due to heavy
\nrain.<\/p>\n
Playing in the same group with South Korea, India, New Zealand
\nand Uzbekistan in the round robin matches, Indonesia will face
\nIndia in the last match on Thursday and get a day off on
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
Winners of each group will advance to the final playoff, in
\nwhich the winner will proceed to the World Group Relegation Ties
\nto be played on a home and away basis in July. The relegation is
\nto determine which team will be relegated or promoted to the 2002
\nWorld Group.<\/p>\n
Indonesia will have to await the decisive pool B match between
\nChina and Chinese Taipei to determine the group's winner. Both
\nteams were undefeated.<\/p>\n
Team manager Martina Widjaja said that Indonesia had a great
\nchance of gaining a finals berth because of its unbeaten record.<\/p>\n
\"If we win over India on Thursday, we will be the pool
\nleaders,\" she told The Jakarta Post by phone.<\/p>\n
She also commented on player development.<\/p>\n
\"Our players are improving, although we lost one game to South
\nKorea today. But South Korea also has good players, they have
