        "content": "<p>Indonesia launched its 2026 self-help housing assistance program\nacross Sulawesi on Friday, allocating aid for 8,973 homes for low-income\nfamilies in Southeast Sulawesi under an effort to help residents repair\nuninhabitable houses.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait launched the\nSelf-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance Program (BSPS) in Kendari,\nSoutheast Sulawesi, with renovation work scheduled to begin in June and\nconclude by August 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The allocation for Southeast Sulawesi rose sharply from 1,129 housing\nunits in 2025, reflecting the government\u2019s push to expand housing\nsupport for low-income communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully next year this assistance can increase again so that more\npeople can benefit from it,\u201d Maruarar said during the launch\nceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The BSPS program allows eligible residents to repair or rebuild\nuninhabitable homes into safer and healthier living spaces through\ngovernment funding.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Sulawesi III Housing Provision Center Bakhtiar said the\nMinistry of Housing and Settlement Areas allocated Rp179.46 billion for\nthe program in Southeast Sulawesi this year.<\/p>\n<p>Each beneficiary household will receive Rp20 million in assistance\nfor housing repairs, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Bakhtiar noted that 7,238 housing units were allocated to coastal\nareas, while 902 units were designated for rural areas and 833 units for\nurban areas across the province.<\/p>\n<p>Kolaka district received the largest allocation with 2,248 housing\nunits, followed by Muna with 888 units and South Konawe with 793\nunits.<\/p>\n<p>Other allocations included Kendari with 548 units, Wakatobi with 541\nunits, Konawe with 491 units, and West Muna with 487 units.<\/p>\n<p>North Kolaka received 424 units, East Kolaka 411 units, Central Buton\n388 units, Buton 319 units, Bombana 291 units, and Baubau city 285\nunits.<\/p>\n<p>Konawe Islands received 259 housing units, while South Buton, North\nButon, and North Konawe each received 200 units.<\/p>\n<p>Maruarar was accompanied by Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian,\nDeputy Chair of House of Representatives Commission V Ridwan Bae, and\nlocal officials during a visit to BSPS beneficiaries in Kendari.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia to extend mortgage tenor to 40 years to ease\npayments<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Healthier homes, shorter cures: Inside Indonesia\u2019s TB\ncontrol efforts<\/p>\n<p>Translator: La Ode M Deden Saputra, Martha Herlinawati Simanju<\/p>",
