        "content": "<p>The Indonesian government is strengthening communication and\ncoordination with Southeast Asian nations following forest and land\nfires (karhutla) and the spread of haze observed in several regions of\nIndonesia and the Southeast Asian area. Vahd Nabyl, Spokesperson II for\nthe Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Indonesia\ncontinues to enhance domestic forest fire control measures while\nsimultaneously coordinating with neighbouring countries to address the\nimpact of haze that potentially crosses national borders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndonesia always prioritises cooperation with neighbouring countries\nand maintains good bilateral relations, particularly in facing\nenvironmental issues that have transboundary impacts, such as haze,\u201d\nVint said in a statement on Saturday (5\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that Indonesia, alongside regional nations, is also\nencouraging increased vigilance in facing dry weather conditions\ninfluenced by climate patterns. This cooperation is deemed essential to\nanticipate the rising risk of forest fires and their impact on air\nquality across the region.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to bilateral communication, Indonesia is utilising the\nASEAN cooperation framework to ensure that haze management is conducted\nin a coordinated manner. This mechanism refers to the ASEAN Agreement on\nTransboundary Haze Pollution (AATHP), which serves as the regional\nframework for addressing transboundary haze pollution.<\/p>\n<p>Vahd noted that the AATHP mechanism is operational, including through\nregular meetings to discuss haze developments and coordinate follow-up\nactions among ASEAN member states. \u201cRegular meetings to discuss haze\nissues and the coordination of follow-up actions continue to be\nconducted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In recent developments, the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC), acting as the\nInterim ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Transboundary Haze Pollution\nControl (ACC THPC), has implemented a regional alert status at Alert\nLevel 3 since 26 August 2026. Under this status, all ASEAN nations are\nrequested to increase reporting and coordination regarding haze\nconditions.<\/p>\n<p>ASEC has requested that ASEAN member states submit daily Situation\nReports (SITREP), including trajectory maps or the direction of smoke\nmovement. These reports are then redistributed to all National Focal\nPoints of ASEAN member states to support monitoring and coordinated\nmanagement within the region.<\/p>\n<p>Vahd ensured that Indonesia is fulfilling its daily reporting\nobligations and the actions required under Alert Level 3 in accordance\nwith the MAJER (Monitoring, Assessment, and Joint Emergency Response)\nSOP. MAJER is an ASEAN procedure that governs the monitoring,\nassessment, and joint response to transboundary haze emergency\nconditions.<\/p>",
