Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga\nHartarto stated that both nations remain optimistic as bilateral trade\nrelations transition from post-ratification to concrete execution.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth countries are optimistic about preparing for the agreement\u2019s\nimplementation, scheduled for the end of this year,\u201d Airlangga said in a\nstatement on Wednesday (September 16), following a bilateral meeting\nwith Canada\u2019s Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu at the\nCanada Investment Summit in Toronto.<\/p>\n
Signed in September 2025 as Indonesia\u2019s first comprehensive economic\npartnership in North America, the agreement is projected to dramatically\nexpand trade corridors - with Indonesia\u2019s exports to Canada expected to\nreach US$11.8 billion by 2030.<\/p>\n
Under the terms of the deal, Canada will eliminate or reduce tariffs\non over 90 percent of tariff lines for Indonesian products, while\nIndonesia will lift or cut duties on nearly 86 percent of tariff lines\nfor Canadian goods.<\/p>\n
Bilateral trade between the two countries has recorded steady growth,\nexpanding at an average rate of 9.13 percent annually since 2021.<\/p>\n
In the first half of 2025, total trade reached US$3.1 billion, up 13\npercent compared to the same period in the previous year.<\/p>\n
Beyond traditional goods, the partnership targets strategic growth\nareas including critical mineral downstreaming, clean energy, agri-food,\nsustainable fisheries, infrastructure and digital services.<\/p>\n
Airlangga noted that both governments are actively addressing\ntechnical challenges prior to implementation, including aligning\nstandardization requirements, labor and sustainability practices as well\nas capacity building for micro, small and medium enterprises\n(MSMEs).<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s meeting reaffirms the shared commitment of Indonesia and\nCanada to ensure that the ICA-CEPA delivers tangible benefits for\nbusinesses in both countries,\u201d Airlangga concluded.<\/p>\n
