        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and the United States have agreed to\nelevate their defence cooperation to the Major Defense Cooperation\nPartnership (MDCP) level as a framework for strengthening defence ties\nto achieve peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership was officially launched during a meeting between\nIndonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and US Defence Minister\nPete Hegseth at the US Department of Defense headquarters, the Pentagon,\non Monday (13\/4) local time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two leaders agreed to elevate the US-Indonesia bilateral defence\nrelationship to the Major Defense Cooperation Partnership,\u201d said\nPentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell in an official Pentagon statement,\nmonitored in Jakarta on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the Major Defense Cooperation Partnership (MDCP)\nhas three main pillars implemented based on principles of mutual respect\nand national sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>The three pillars are military modernisation and capacity building,\nprofessional military training and education, and exercises and\noperational cooperation, Parnell stated.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon spokesperson conveyed that during their meeting, Defence\nMinister Sjafrie and Defence Minister Hegseth committed to expanding the\nscope and complexity of bilateral and multilateral exercises, such as\nSuper Garuda Shield.<\/p>\n<p>This enhancement, he said, aims to strengthen the collective\ncapabilities between the two countries\u2019 militaries in efforts to\nmaintain peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe two leaders reaffirmed the important and continuously evolving\ndefence relationship and discussed various shared goals, including\nenhancing special forces training and professional military education,\u201d\nSean Parnell added.<\/p>\n<p>On the same occasion, Defence Minister Hegseth also praised Indonesia\nfor its participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) and Indonesia\u2019s\ndecision to take on a command role in the International Stabilization\nForce (ISF) in Gaza, Parnell stated.<\/p>\n<p>The newly agreed cooperation reflects the sustainable development of\nthe US-Indonesia bilateral defence relationship that has been built over\nseveral decades.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Indonesia and the US recognise each other as important\npartners in the defence sector.<\/p>\n<p>The two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate based\non principles of mutual respect, respect for sovereignty, and shared\ninterests in maintaining peace and regional stability, according to the\nPentagon statement.<\/p>",
