The commitment\nfollowed the signing of cooperation deals on Sunday, March 15, 2026,\nduring the Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum\nin Tokyo. The agreements cover critical minerals, nuclear energy, and\nthe Abadi Masela gas project.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian government and Japan signed two Memorandums of\nCooperation in strategic sectors. These include critical minerals and\nnuclear energy development cooperation. The agreements aim to build a\nresilient and sustainable energy system.<\/p>\n<p>For critical minerals, both countries seek to secure global supply\nchains. The cooperation also supports clean energy technology using\nIndonesia\u2019s strategic resources. This highlights Indonesia\u2019s role in the\nglobal energy transition.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir delivered the\nstatement on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. He\nexpressed openness for joint management of Indonesia\u2019s critical\nminerals. He also encouraged collaboration with Japanese businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c I very much welcome the memorandum we signed today, especially in\nthe field of critical minerals, we are very open, we are very happy to\ninvite the Japanese government and Japanese business partners to jointly\nmanage our critical minerals in Indonesia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Ryosei Akazawa,\nstressed global cooperation importance. He highlighted energy security\nand sustainable supply amid global challenges. Indonesia also discussed\nthe Masela Block with CEO of Inpex Corporation Takayuki Ueda.<\/p>\n<p>The Masela project holds USD 20 billion investment value.
