The Indonesian government, via the Ministry of National Development
Planning/Bappenas and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), is
preparing to mobilise US$2 billion in green investment by 2030 through
the Green Indonesia Future Initiative (GIFT) partnership. Leonardo A. A.
Teguh Sambodo, Deputy for Food, Natural Resources, and Environment at
Bappenas, explained that GIFT reflects a commitment to ensuring that
development interventions serve not only present interests but also the
needs of future generations. He stated during a media briefing in
Jakarta on Tuesday that the green economic transformation is a necessity
rather than an option to ensure Indonesia’s growth remains sustainable
and maintains public welfare. Bappenas has maintained a partnership with
GGGI since 2014, realised through the Green Growth Program (GGP). The
partnership’s contribution is measured by its realised outcomes, which
are estimated to have supported a reduction in emissions equivalent to
183.54 million tonnes of CO2 and the creation of 271,095 green jobs.
Furthermore, eco-friendly investments amounting to approximately
US$776.5 billion have been mobilised across various sectors, ranging
from energy and urban areas to social forestry and the blue economy. In
the next phase, spanning 2026-2030, Bappenas and GGGI will launch the
GIFT initiative, which is set to be officially inaugurated on 4 June
2026.
",
