Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian and Chinese governments are ready\nto explore strategic cooperation opportunities in the housing sector,\nincluding technology transfer, as well as discussions on financing and\nland.<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas\n(PKP), Maruarar Sirait, following a bilateral meeting with the Minister\nof Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People\u2019s Republic of\nChina, Ni Hong, in Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe discussed each other\u2019s experiences, both in Indonesia and in\nChina, on how to handle issues in the housing sector, how to tackle the\nhousing backlog for people who do not yet own a home, and also how to\naddress the backlog for people who own a home but one that is unfit for\nhabitation,\u201d said Minister Maruarar.<\/p>\n
He said the homeownership backlog remains a major problem.\nNationally, the homeownership backlog stands at 9.6 million units, based\non the 2025 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also exchanged views on land, financing and technology. Finally,\nwe agreed that there will be follow-up, and we will focus on housing for\nlow- and middle-income communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the man affectionately known as Ara said the three-hour\ndiscussion also covered strategic housing programmes in both\ncountries.<\/p>\n
Ara underlined effective land provision for urban housing, as well as\nthe development of subsidised housing with an emphasis on green and\nsustainability aspects.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor subsidised housing in particular, every house must have one tree\nfor greening,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the\nPeople\u2019s Republic of China, Ni Hong, said the discussions on housing\nwith Indonesia were open and important.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also pleased that, under the direction of the Indonesian and\nChinese governments, both countries can create new areas of cooperation\nin the housing sector. This is because Indonesia is a major trading\npartner, so it is hoped that cooperation in housing can be elevated to a\nhigher level,\u201d said Minister Ni Hong.<\/p>\n
In addition, China will encourage the business community in the\nMiddle Kingdom to take part in developing housing cooperation, so as to\nensure good quality.<\/p>\n
\u201cConditions in each country are indeed different, so the challenges\nexperienced and faced will also differ. But we are willing to learn from\neach other and seek solutions together,\u201d said Minister Ni Hong.<\/p>\n
