Indolink's services cover 85% of Java<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Nationwide beeper operator PT Indolink First
\nPacific announced Tuesday that it now covered 85 percent the Java
\nisland, after finding that people were attracted to use beepers
\nwith wide coverage.<\/p>\n
Company director, Hendarso Hadiparmono, said a survey which
\nwas confidentially conducted by a third party but exclusively for
\nIndolink, revealed that radio paging users were attracted to
\nsubscribe beeper operators offering wide coverage.<\/p>\n
He refused to give more details on the survey results.<\/p>\n
He told reporters that to improve its coverage in the whole
\nJava island for better service, Indolink had invested US$7.8
\nmillion since the incorporation of the company three years ago.<\/p>\n
According to Hendarso, Indolink is at the moment the first
\nbeeper operator offering largest coverage in Java.<\/p>\n
Indolink is 80 percent controlled by the Hong Kong-based First
\nPacific Communications Holdings, in which Salim Group controls
\nthe majority stakes, and 20 percent by the employee cooperative
\nof the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications.
\nEstablished in 1994, Indolink currently has some 48,000
\nsubscribers.<\/p>\n
In addition to Indolink which offers nation-wide service, the
\ngovernment has licensed nine other operators to serve national
\nradio paging service networks.<\/p>\n
The firms licensed to operate radio paging nationally include
\nPT Telematrixindo which operates EasyCall, PT Persada Komindo
\nwhich operates Nusa Page and PT SkyTelindo which operates Skytel.
\nThe other services are Starpage of PT Duta Pertiwi Santosa,
\nTelepage of PT Buana Bintangbayu and Indolink.<\/p>\n
Due to tariff regulation set by the government, beeper
\ncompetition is limited to services.<\/p>\n
Hendarso said that Indolink was expected to gain its first net
\nprofit next year. \"We expect to have the first operating profit
\nthis year.\"<\/p>\n
He said that Indolink was also seeking ISO-9000 certification
\nat least next, in an effort to become a leading radio paging
\nbeeper carrier.<\/p>\n
The ISO-9000 is one of the guidelines and standards on quality
\nsystem series introduced by the International Standardization
\nOrganization which was established in New York in 1987 by dozens
