Indictments in Acan case valid<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Bekasi District Court cleared the way for
\nprosecutors in the Acan gang rape and robbery case yesterday,
\nwhen the court rejected the objections of the defense.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge Pieter Poerba said the indictments brought
\nagainst the defendants are valid and in accordance with criminal
\nlaw.<\/p>\n
Judge Poerba went on to say that there were no grounds for the
\ndefense's objections, which claimed that the indictments refer to
\ninappropriate paragraphs of the criminal code and contain
\nincorrect names and birth dates.<\/p>\n
These are only technical matters, most of which have been
\ncorrected, said Judge Poerba, who heard the defense's objections
\nyesterday morning.<\/p>\n
Eleven men have been accused of involvement in the case of
\nAcan, whose wife and two teenage daughters were raped and robbed
\nlast July in a small village in Bekasi, 30 km southeast of here.<\/p>\n
Fifteen lawyers are currently defending the 11 men in three
\nseparate trials. Yesterday's trial was adjourned until next
\nThursday, when prosecutors will present their witnesses.(03)<\/p>",
