Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed that he feels
honoured to be part of the commencement of conservation efforts for the
Prambanan Temple complex, a cultural heritage site approximately 1,000
to 1,200 years old. He described the temple in Yogyakarta as a cultural
heritage with profound historical and spiritual value. “I feel very
fortunate to have the opportunity to begin the restoration and
renovation work of this cultural heritage, which is around 1,000 to
1,200 years old. I am very enthusiastic,” Modi stated. PM Modi also
conveyed his appreciation to the Indonesian people for successfully
safeguarding and caring for Prambanan over the centuries. He believes
the start of this conservation project will further increase the
interest of tourists and pilgrims from India in visiting Indonesia,
particularly the Special Region of Yogyakarta. “I extend my deepest
gratitude to the Indonesian people for preserving and caring for this
immense cultural heritage with such dedication,” Modi said. He is
optimistic that this conservation cooperation will further strengthen
bilateral relations while encouraging an increase in cultural tourism
visits from India to Indonesia. “I am confident that after the
commencement of this revitalisation project, more tourists and pilgrims
from India will come to visit this place,” he added. The Indonesia-India
conservation cooperation will focus on revitalising the Perwara Temples
that surround the three main temples of Prambanan. Of the more than 200
existing Perwara Temples, only a small portion have been successfully
revitalised to date. Both countries will conduct technical studies,
strengthen scientific documentation, exchange conservation expertise,
and develop cultural heritage preservation technology. Beyond physical
restoration, the cooperation is also expected to strengthen human
resource capacity in archaeology and conservation, while enriching
knowledge about the sustainable management of world heritage sites.
",
