Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he felt honoured to be part\nof the launch of the conservation of the Prambanan Temple complex, which\nis around 1,000 to 1,200 years old. He described Prambanan Temple in\nYogyakarta as a cultural heritage holding profound historical and\nspiritual value.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to begin the\nrestoration and renovation work of this cultural heritage that is around\n1,000 to 1,200 years old. I am very enthusiastic,\u201d said Modi.<\/p>\n
PM Modi also expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian people for\nsuccessfully protecting and caring for Prambanan over the centuries.\nAccording to him, the launch of this conservation project will further\nincrease the interest of tourists and pilgrims from India in visiting\nIndonesia, particularly Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
\u201cI extend my deepest gratitude to the people of Indonesia for\nguarding and caring for this magnificent cultural heritage with such\ndevotion,\u201d said Modi.<\/p>\n
He is optimistic that this conservation cooperation will further\nstrengthen relations between the two countries, whilst also driving an\nincrease in cultural tourism visits from India to Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am confident that once this revitalisation project has begun,\ntourists and pilgrims from India will come to visit this place in ever\ngreater numbers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Indonesia-India conservation cooperation will focus on the\nrevitalisation of the Perwara temples surrounding Prambanan\u2019s three main\ntemples. Of the more than 200 Perwara temples that exist, only a small\nproportion have so far been successfully revitalised.<\/p>\n
The two countries will conduct technical studies, strengthen\nscientific documentation, exchange conservation expertise, and develop\npreservation technologies for cultural heritage. Beyond physical\nrestoration, the cooperation is also expected to build capacity in the\nfields of archaeology and conservation, whilst enriching knowledge of\nsustainable world heritage site management.<\/p>\n
President Prabowo Subianto and PM Narendra Modi launched the\nPrambanan Temple conservation collaboration as a symbol of the closeness\nof Indonesian and Indian civilisations. The visit by President Prabowo\nand PM Modi was intended to observe and follow up on the restoration and\nconservation cooperation at the Prambanan Temple Complex.<\/p>\n
The two leaders also monitored the temple from the air before\ndiscussing cooperation on the restoration of the historic site.
