Indian Navy calls at Surabaya<\/p>\n
INDONESIA: The Indian Naval Ship Tir will be in Surabaya, East
\nJava, on a visit from Friday through Sunday to improve relations
\nbetween the two countries' navies.<\/p>\n
The ship is on a two-month training cruise under the command
\nof Col. Rajeev Girotra.<\/p>\n
During their stay in Surabaya, Indian naval officers would
\nhold talks with their Indonesian counterparts at the Navy Eastern
\nFleet Command headquarters and Surabaya Naval Base, the Indian
\nEmbassy in Jakarta said.<\/p>\n
Indian Navy officers are also scheduled to visit the Indonesian
\nNaval Academy.<\/p>\n
The Tir, a 3,000-ton, 106-meter long training ship, will be
\nopen to members of the Indonesian Navy and schoolchildren.<\/p>\n
From Surabaya, the Tir, which has visited Benoa, Bali and
\nCairns in Australia, will call at several other ports in the
\nregion before returning to its base in Kochin, India.<\/p>\n
Indonesia and India signed a defense cooperation agreement in
\n2001 to combat maritime piracy, smuggling and transnational
\ncrime. The two fleets conduct joint patrols, exercises and
