Jakarta (ANTARA) - India is encouraging Indonesia to strengthen\nartificial intelligence (AI) partnerships within the BRICS framework so\nthat the technology can be more widely applied to healthcare,\nagriculture, SMEs, and the general public.<\/p>\n
India\u2019s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, stated that\nboth nations have significant opportunities to enhance AI cooperation\nthrough applications that provide direct benefits to society.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should work together on the implementation of AI in the fields of\nhealthcare and agriculture. We have also explored the application of AI\nsolutions for SMEs and the business world,\u201d Chakravorty said in a\nspecial written interview with ANTARA regarding India\u2019s BRICS\nPresidency, Friday.<\/p>\n
He explained that AI is a vital component of the innovation pillar,\nwhich is one of the four priority pillars of India\u2019s BRICS Presidency\nthis year. The other three pillars are resilience, cooperation, and\nsustainability.<\/p>\n
According to Chakravorty, one area of AI that could be optimised\njointly by Indonesia and India is language technology to bridge\ncommunication for populations using different languages. This\ncooperation is considered vital for Indonesia and India, both of which\npossess immense linguistic diversity and hold some of the largest\nnumbers of languages in the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can collaborate on language technology, specifically technology\nthat makes AI increasingly accessible to communities speaking diverse\nlanguages,\u201d said the Indian Ambassador.<\/p>\n
To support this, universities and researchers from both countries\nneed to strengthen partnerships through joint research, particularly in\nthe field of AI, he added.<\/p>\n
The Indian Ambassador also encouraged policymakers from both nations\nto increase interaction to exchange experiences and expertise to ensure\nresponsible AI governance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have also established a Joint Working Group on Digital\nTechnology, which is authorised to review this cooperation sector,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India,\non 12-13 September 2026. This international cooperation forum carries\nthe theme \u201cBuilding for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and\nSustainability\u201d this year.<\/p>\n
Indonesia joined BRICS as a member on 6 January 2025.
