Independent team set up to help govt manage firms<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The office of the Ministry for the Empowerment
\nof State Enterprises has set up an independent team to help the
\ngovernment in managing state companies.<\/p>\n
Sofyan Djalil, the deputy of the state minister for the
\nempowerment of state enterprises, said on Thursday that the 14-
\nmember team, comprising businessmen, academicians and
\nlegislators, would provide inputs for the empowerment of state
\nenterprises and enhance their role in promoting the people's
\neconomy.<\/p>\n
\"Members of the team are independent individuals who are
\nworking on a voluntary basis,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The team, to be called the public policy-making team, includes
\namong others Sugeng Sarjadi of Kodel Group, economist Pande Radja
\nSilalahi, Anwar Nasution, Fachry Ali, Didiek Rachbini and Eki
\nSjakrudin, intellectuals Tjuk Sukiadi, Nurcholish Madjid, Bambang
\nF. Yudhoyono, journalist Djafar Assegaf of Media Indonesia, and
\nSultan Hamengkubuwono X, the governor of the Yogyakarta special
\nprovince.<\/p>\n
The team would, for example, formulate alternatives and
\noptions in fostering mutually-beneficial relationships between
\nsmall and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), large corporations and
\nstate-owned firms in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Sofyan said that team had proposed the establishment of
\nfinancial institutions such as a capital venture company to help
\nin the development of small-scale companies in the country.<\/p>\n
One concrete recommendation, he said, is the establishment of
\ncapital venture company PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) to
\ncarry out this task.<\/p>\n
\"PT PNM will provide fresh capital and expertise for small-
\nscale businessmen in the country in order to improve their
