        "content": "<p>Surabaya (ANTARA) - Prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication\nCommission (KPK) have demanded a prison sentence of 7 years and 2\nmonths, along with a fine of Rp205 million (subsidiary to 90 days of\nimprisonment), for the inactive Mayor of Madiun, Maidi, in relation to\nalleged corruption and gratification totalling Rp10.7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to that demand, the defendant, Maidi, is required to pay\nrestitution of Rp8 billion; if he is unable to pay, his assets will be\nconfiscated, and if they are insufficient, it will be replaced by 5\nyears of imprisonment,\u201d stated KPK Prosecutor Palupi Wiryrand during a\nsession at the Surabaya Corruption Court in Sidoarjo on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The total value of the corruption consists of alleged extortion\ndisguised as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the Winongo\nLandfill (TPA) project amounting to Rp1.7 billion, as well as alleged\ngratification in the form of commitment fees from projects within the\nMadiun City Public Works, Housing, and Settlement (PUPR) Department\nexceeding Rp9 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecutor, the defendant, Maidi, was proven in the\nfirst indictment to have violated Article 12 letter E of the\nAnti-Corruption Law and in the second indictment, Article 12 B of the\nAnti-Corruption Law.<\/p>\n<p>The trial, presided over by Chief Judge Ernawati in the Candra Room,\nfeatured the defendant Maidi, the former Head of the Madiun City PUPR\nDepartment Thariq Megah, and a private individual trusted by Maidi,\nRochim Ruhdiyanto.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors revealed that Maidi allegedly abused his authority as the\nMayor of Madiun by requiring parties processing permits in the Madiun\nCity Government to deposit money to his trusted associate, Robi\nSuprianto, under the pretext of CSR or corporate social responsibility\nfunds.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution stated that this practice contravened Madiun City\nRegional Regulation Number 42 of 2018 concerning Corporate Social\nResponsibility and Madiun Mayor Regulation Number 85 of 2020 regarding\nits implementing guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Maidi\u2019s legal counsel, Iqbal Syarifudin, stated that they\nwould study the KPK prosecutor\u2019s demands as several facts from the trial\nhave yet to be presented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn our view, the demand still needs to be corrected in the plea that\nwe will present next week,\u201d he said. His team intends to provide a\nresponse through a plea to offer a perspective to the panel of judges to\nensure a fair verdict for Maidi.<\/p>",
