        "content": "<p>INACA wants higher fares<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian National Air Carriers Association<br>\n(INACA) is proposing a 70 percent hike in domestic airfares to<br>\nUS$0.13 per kilometer per seat starting at the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>Association chairman Soelarto Hadisoemarto said it was<br>\nimpossible for airline companies to cover operating costs at the<br>\ncurrent airfare rate of US$0.075 per kilo meter per seat<br>\nfollowing a 76 percent increase in jet fuel prices .<\/p>\n<p>\"We will consult with the House of Representatives regarding<br>\nthe airfare increase very soon,\" Soelarto was quoted by Bisnis<br>\nIndonesia daily on Saturday as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Soelarto said he understood the country's unfortunate economic<br>\ncondition and said raising airfares gradually every six months<br>\nwas a possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, INACA secretary Benny Rungkat said the association<br>\nwould also discuss with the government payment of the airfare in<br>\nU.S. dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The country has five commercial airlines -- state-owned Garuda<br>\nIndonesia and Merpati Nusantara Airlines, and private Bouraq<br>\nAirlines, Mandala Airlines and Dirgantara Air Services.
